Pattern and Design
The project 'Intentions' was based on three main words - Concept, Process and Context. We had to come up with our own concept, specialise in a process to create designs from and then show what our work would look like in context.
Below is the concept i came up with:
Pattern is a word commonly associated with Textile Design. In every piece of work created there will be a form of pattern involved. My main concept idea has started from looking into manmade structures. Most buildings are mainly seen as just geometric shapes however I want to look closely at the detail and decorations involved and create pattered designs that I can work and experiment with.
My main inspiration has come from my own photos. I have taken a number of photos focusing mainly on structures with a lot of pattern and design, which I can then develop into something of my own. I have looked at different wallpapers and interior images, which have influenced me to create my own collection of designs. One other main inspiration has been Matthew Williamson and his unique designs. A collection that particularly caught my eye is selection of 15 prints that are bursting with pattern and colour which catch your eye straight away.
I will be visually researching into manmade structures. I will be taking photos and drawing from my research which will enable me to create deigns that I can develop further. I would like to use my designs in print and experiment with ways of displaying and showing it as a collection. I will be using a range of media and different printing techniques in my work which will enable me to stretch my work further.
I hope to interest audiences such as interior companies which mainly specialise wallpaper or fabric design. I hope to produce work that is individual and will have potential to be used in the interior work.
