Overview

Overall, I feel that unit x went well however it definitely challenged me. When I first heard about what unit x was and what group I had been put into I was a bit nervous starting off the project because I know that fashion is something that I am not so confident in. When I found out our project was group work I was looking forward to working in a group because I am a team player and enjoy working with other people.

As a group I feel we took quite a while to come up with an idea, however once we actually got started I felt our idea and concept were really strong. I really enjoed working with my group members becauseI felt we all got along well and could share our ideas with each other coming up with a really good final idea. However, I did sometimes find it difficult working in a group because its hard to get everyone to meet up on the same day.

I am really happy with the overall result of our film. As I am not usually familiar with digital technology I feel that I worked my best trying to make stop motion films and filming the end result. I also really enjoyed drawing out flower designs and finding ways to connect them with stop motion film.

To improve in this project I feel I could have experimented a bit more with my ideas and perhaps use fabrics in my stop motion videos. Even though I am happy with my result I feel I could have started experimenting more with my ideas and therefore develop them further.
The final video is shown on my group wearing it 2 blog.

Projection - Filming - My Design

When it came to my piece we tried to use the real yellow flower opening up onto the garnment however it didnt work very well as something was wrong with the process therefore I chose to have the flower print where its starts off a black and white print and then gradually gains colour when the sunlight hits it

The flowers on the jacket gradually gain colour as sunlight hits the jacket

Projection - Filming

When it came to filming and putting everyones peices of work together we spent 7 hours in the dark room but the end result was worth it. We set up the room and hung the garnments from the wall to test and make sure it all fits into the filming space

Preparing the garnments

We then got the projecter working making sure it would fit in the background of the wall and cover all the garnments

We then started filming each persons peice, seeing what would work best with everyone elses and putting it all together

Flower experimenting

I also decided that I wanted to try some stop motion with a real flower, having it growing out or in when the sunlight hits it. I managed to find a flower that went with my colour way too.
Here are some photos of the stop motion that I crated with the flower:

The slowers starts off as a bud and as the sun hits it, it gradually opens up into a flower

Stop Motion continued...

Larger scale drawing and stop motion of my colour flower design - I also created the larger one into a stop motion film to see if a larger image would look better than the smaller one.

Colour choices

The colours I would usually go for are very bright however as a group we decided to go for more natural colours. I decided to link my colours within the group by choosing yellow and browns as my key colours.
I then came up with the idea to perhaps have my print already projected onto the dress and then the colour gradually builds up around it when the sunlight hits it.

Above are some photos of the process of stop motion

I also played around with a design that I would perhaps want to use projecting onto a garnment. I sketched this design out without looking at the paper and using a picture that I took myself.

I then made a stop motion of this starting with the page being blank and then it gradually building up into this design

Here are some pictures of the steps throughout the stop motion process:

Stop Motion

As I am new to stop motion and have not practised it before I decided to play around with a few films to see how it worked. In this work I have decided to go ahead and use the flower sketches, and having them growing up the garnment. For example, the design on the dress starts plain but then as the sunlight hits it it gradually grows and turns into a design on the dress.

At the moment I cannot upload the videos therefore will show it through some pictures:
